Dakar, Senegal

Hello!

Thanks for visiting my personal site, where I curate my work, self-published and otherwise

What I do

I am an independent editor and writer mostly interested in arts and culture, development stories and women's rights. My nonfiction work has appeared in multiple publications that include Harper’s Magazine, Al Jazeera, AFP, LitHub, African Arguments and OkayAfrica

I also write fiction (my true love)—some of which have been published here and here—and was longlisted for the Commonwealth Short Story Prize along with being a finalist for the Graywolf Press African Fiction Prize

Besides fiction writing, I craft content and copyedit for businesses. So hit me up if you need an astute storyteller to draft compelling copy, or a diligent editor to cross your Ts and mind your Qs

What I love

Reading, travelling and writing. OK, I lied about the last part. I dread writing like I do exercise, maybe even more. In fact, watching the cursor blink on a blank page is far more terrifying than the movie It. That said, the pleasure of having written far outweighs the gruelling process, so I soldier on

Guiltless pleasures include

Predawn silence

Getting lost in a novel

Rainy mornings… on days I have nowhere to go

French pastries

Someday, I’ll

Go bungee jumping

Visit Ethiopia and Malta

Write my fourth novel

Live in a small, two-bedroom home on a lush island with no cars… But considering global warming and rising sea levels, this is merely a watery dream now

Prosecute Dostoevsky’s Crime and Punishment, just not in this lifetime
